The Reformation was a transnational revolt that drew England into a succession of European wars, made it part of a European alliance system, triggered an English civil war with war of annihilation against the Irish and was only defused once Germans ascended to the British throne
There was nothing uniquely English about Henry VIII's emulation of the Elector of Saxony and other German princes in seizing control of church hierarchy and property. He was just more tyrannical about it.

Many ideas popular among Oliver Cromwell's circle drew on Dutch precedents
All of this is taught systematically in Oxford or other UK university modules on Early Modern History.

If there was a deep criticism to be had it was how until '04/05 such courses in England relegated Wales, Scotland and Ireland to a "Celtic fringe".
All the people writing these bizarrely ahistorical "hey, isn't Brexit like the Reformation!" pieces will have studied it at English universities and schools.

Some will even have taught it.

The sheer power of ideological pop culture narratives.
