BREAKING: #HongKong Chief Executive Carrie Lam will be speaking at 10am at the Chief Executive Office.
A large group of journalists is now at the lobby of the Chief Executive Office, as Carrie Lam is expected to address the recent #HongKong protests in half an hour.
Carrie Lam blames “extreme violent protesters” for throwing bricks, petrol bombs, and defacing the national emblem.

No concession given, besides saying that @hkpoliceforce will hold a daily presser starting today
@hkpoliceforce Paul Chan saying that #HongKong is facing downward economic pressure, and warning that the protests will make the situation worse.
@hkpoliceforce Carrie Lam: “I appeal to the media to have a bit more understanding towards the police force.”

She says the IPCC will launch its investigation, and there is no need for an independent commission of inquiry.
@hkpoliceforce Carrie Lam:

“Some people have been pushing Hong Kong to a very dangerous situation.”

“The only way is deal with (violence) is by the rule of law, which is the most important core value of HK.”
@hkpoliceforce Carrie Lam:

“I don’t think that at this time, the resignation of myself or my colleagues will bring a better solution”
@hkpoliceforce To sum up:
- No concession AT ALL
- Gov’t has already responded to protesters’ demands
- Blame extreme radicals for bringing #HongKong to a dangerous situation
- Protest undermines HK’s economy

And then Lam & team walked away as frustrated journalists kept shouting questions.
@hkpoliceforce My take:
If you intend to hold a presser on the eve of a major protest, you better say sth that can cool down emotions.

Condemning protesters while refusing to give more concessions will not solve the problem. As the gov’t takes a tougher stance, the movement will just continue.
