Shot thread on one of the 'root causes' of shooters' apparent shared alienation & anger.

There is an indoctrination by 'popular culture'- in which young men have inculcated in them that any expression of traditional 'masculine' traits is 'evil' w/ constant shaming of them.

Especially their sexuality. The popular culture these days actively suppresses innate and natural Male biological 'urges' and imperatives- bottling them up with no outlet, where they shimmer and fester. Until in some young men they explode.

There's an overwhelming cultural meme of 'Female Empowerment' in academia, business & MSM. Women SHOULD be empowered- but it is unfortunately and largely presented as a binary choice; where the only way women CAN be 'empowered' is by systemic disempowerment of men.

Why can't we empower EVERYBODY? Instead, we have ANY expression of traditionally normal male behavior denounced as 'toxic masculinity'. While there is indeed much misogyny in society, lumping ALL behavior that is traditionally 'Male' in that category CREATES toxicity.

Most older men w/more life experience can deal w/ this better than adolescent males, whose social skills are forming at their age. Many are frustrated by the conflicting messages that tell them on one hand they must 'act like men', but any expression of maleness is 'toxic'.

The majority of young men with good social skills and role models can get through this gauntlet of shaming and scolding. But those with awkward social skills and bad or no role models can sink into a pit of depression and hostility toward society.

These young men who are socially isolated often become 'incel' or involuntarily celibate. Their suppressed sexuality has no outlet, and their anger is often sinconsciously channeled against society in general. They create scapegoats in their own mind- racial, political, etc.

This is usually supported by an unhealthy online life, where those pro.oting toxic ideologies find fertile ground among these frustrated loners- cting as surrogate 'role models' and channeling their hatred against surrogate scapegoats.

This scenario is merely an attempt to understand the motivations and psychological underpinnings for their aberrant behavior. Not all or even many of these young men will become mass shooters. But most young, male mass shooters seem to come from this profile.

This is not the only 'root cause', but it is a major factor in many mass shootings. It needs to be addressed. Focusing on confused political rantings by these troubled young men ignores the ROOT CAUSES of their obvious mental illness.

No new law addressing only the superficial symptoms or tactics these young men employ will do anything to prevent further mass shootings. It only serves to salve the egos of the hand-wringing pundit and political classes & to get them more air time and political donations.

What is needed is societal change and an honest, open dialogue in this country about mental health and the toxic effects of cultural shaming & resultant isolation of segments of society based on purely political or ideoligically-motivated social-engineering motives.
