Here's a strange thing... A new protocol was signed to increase exports of British beef to China. And that's entirely a good thing. But there's no indication that Brexit was necessary for the agreement to be reached.

Seems to happen a lot. The UK Government announces XYZ will happen, but when you look more closely you realise it's something that could have happened anyway. Brexit played no part. For instance yesterday's announcement by Boris Johnson that he's relaxing visas for scientists.
So imagine a situation in which we did all those positive things AND cancelled Brexit! We'd be ahead, rather than about to take a massive leap behind.

I wonder what the Remain Alliance would look like if Labour played ball? And I mean really played ball, ie stood down candidates in the areas where the LD or other parties had a better chance? And vice versa for RA parties and Labour?

RA parties: 50 MPs
Labour 260 MPs
Tories/BP: most of rest

Pact
RA parties: 70 MPs
Labour 280 MPs
Tories/BP: most of rest
One scenario, the Tories have a majority or a working majority. The other they don't. And in the second scenario, the RA parties have enormously more power collectively than in the first.

Here's why the LibDems pivoting to out-and-out Remain (away from "second referendum with a Remain option and we'll campaign for Remain") is so important: if not the largest party, they could well end up kingmakers. If they're Remain to the core, the price of coalition is clear.
"If you want power, cancel Brexit. We'll support you." (Or words to that effect.) Question is, whether Corbyn really wants to be PM enough to accept that massive trade-off. But at least it's crystal clear.
Because if you look at the LibDems right now, their messaging is fantastic. It's snappy, and unequivocal: ("Stop Brexit", "B-word to Brexit", "Remain Alliance")

But when you look at the convoluted path to actually getting remain, you start to get a itchy feeling.

I've had some amazingly thoughtful tweets in response to my question about the "one best thing" aspect of EU membership. What's been interesting, apart from the numerous mentions of "peace", is how many people picked freedom of movement.
Thing is, I'd probably go along with that. It's a tough toss-up between that and the SM+CU. But the number one best thing about the EU seems to also be the one thing that most Leavers seem intent on getting rid of. It's hard to see how those two are in any way compatible.
What this suggests is that any talk of a healing or coming together isn't just optimistic, it's *impossible*.

One of the bizarre notions of #Brexit voters is that paying x billion into EU to run the common market gives EU consumers a duty to buy British products rather than an opportunity to market UK exports.
This British delusion about how trade works is illustrated by Brexit voting idiots saying stuff like “we pay 40m for a trade deficit of 150m”. They confuse foreign trade with buying things abroad. Producing and marketing stuff that foreign consumers actually want is beyond them.
The same delusion is at work when British politicians mention “the ability to strike our own trade deals”. Leavers think that somehow all that is required is a Doctor’s note from a disgraced Defense Secretary and instantly trade starts flowing to those foreign far flung countries

1) What is Trump's ultimate game? RECIPROCAL TRADE & INVESTMENT. Pissed off about higher tariffs vs the US & non-tariff barriers. Regarding #China 🇨🇳, doesn't like forced tech transfers, Chinese industrial overcapacity, gov subs. But how to get this? Investment+Trade policy
2)Implemented #taxreforms that impacts 50% of global FDI stock & favors US as a destination; USD2trn of REPATRIATION of funds, lower retained earnings of foreign affiliates; higher INVESTMENT in the US b/c of expensing, re-shoring of manufacturing. Basically, good for earnings💪

I'm currently at this #Brexit conference in Copenhagen, where the British ambassador and several #DExEU officials will be on panels with representatives of Danish trade and security. It'll be very interesting to see what's said, especially in light of May's recent Munich speech.
