If there is to be a way to stop No Deal Brexit by legislative means next week, it is Conservative MPs putting the future of the UK (and its representative democracy) above their own futures that are going to have to do it

Here follows a thread of Tories saying the right things!
Antoinette Sandbach
@Sandbach

"prorogation [...] an affront to democratic accountability"
Dr Phillip Lee
@DrPhillipLeeMP

"Conservative MPs need to stand up and be counted next week [..] it put up or shut up time"
Sam Gyimah
@SamGyimah

"If Jeremy Corbyn did that many of my Conservative colleagues would be accusing him of Trotskyite tactics"
Justine Greening
@JustineGreening

"Totally wrong to prorogue Parliament."
David Gauke
@DavidGauke

"This is a dangerous precedent."
Philip Hammond
@PhilipHammondUK

"a constitutional outrage if Parliament were prevented from holding the government to account at a time of national crisis"
Oliver Letwin
@oletwinofficial

"not a proper way to proceed. I expect that Parliament will respond in the only way it can: by legislating next week, before it is prorogued"
Rory Stewart
@RoryStewartUK

"Parliament should not be suspended. I will vote against a no-deal Brexit because it would be damaging, divisive and unnecessary."
David Lidington
@DLidington

“What prorogation does is prevent Parliament from sitting at all. And it prevents MPs from asking questions [...] And I think that’s that is not a good way to do democracy.”

theguardian.com/politics/live/…
Dominic Grieve

"Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament is deeply questionable and outrageous"
I cannot currently find any statements from Kenneth Clarke or @GutoAberconwy, both of whom I expect to behave similarly.

I will add to this thread if there are more sensible quotes from further Tory MPs.
So thank you all the MPs cited here. I don't envy the tricky position you find yourselves in, but stick to your principles! 💪

Thanks @BethTMoore for pointing me to:

Greg Clark
@GregClarkMP

"Parliament should be sitting more, not less, during the crucial weeks ahead including during the conference recess"
@BethTMoore @GregClarkMP @stevetremlett @AlistairBurtUK Meanwhile @ianrobo1 points me towards what Kenneth Clarke said on Radio 4

Kenneth Clarke

suspension of parliament is “outrageous” and wonders how Johnson and his team “can keep a straight face”

That's 13 Tories so far
@BethTMoore @GregClarkMP @stevetremlett @AlistairBurtUK @ianrobo1 14th MP on the record - via @ryrymcmullen

Stephen Hammond MP
@S_Hammond

"Prime Minister should be using all his efforts to secure a deal with the EU, rather than blocking MPs doing the job for which we are elected."
