1. One of the reasons for the current crisis is that in Feb 2017, MPs voted by 498 to 114 to trigger Art. 50. That included Corbyn issuing a 3-line whip for Lab MPs to vote for it, with only 47 of the 232 Labour MPs defying the whip to vote against, while 167 voted to trigger it.
2. Article 50 - a clause whose own author admits that the timeframe was so narrow, it was never really intended to be used - defaults to a "No Deal" crash-out.
3. These 498 MPs voted to trigger Article 50, despite the gov. of the day having no plan, no negotiating position, & not even a list of objectives it had agreed amongst itself. The MPs voted for a blank cheque. This isn't hindsight - plenty of people pointed this out at the time.
4. Whenever people talk about no-one having voted for the "No Deal" option - these MPs did. And that is being hung around the country's neck by Rees-Mogg, Farage, et al, to add a fig-leaf of legitimacy to their reckless crash-out project.
5. A prudent House of Commons would have said to the government, "Come back to us with a viable stance, and we'll vote to trigger once we're convinced it could fly." But 498 MPs voted for unicorns, and pink elephants.
