EU27 received an update on Brexit today. They were told:

- UK committed to send concrete proposals three weeks ago but hasn't done so. Every week, the UK promises to send proposals the following week, but to date nothing has been received.

- UK press reports re. a change in rhetoric after the G7 summit were noted. EU has informed UK that "nothing has changed" and that the EU has been requesting proposals from the UK for the last two years.

- While UK agrees with principle of avoiding a hard border, UK has no problem with controls within Northern Ireland if these take place away from the physical border. In response, EU noted that these checks would be tantamount to a border, obstructing frictionless trade.

@tconnellyRTE - Other changes UK is seeking:

1) in political declaration: refer to a best in class FTA, and restrict level playing field (to diverge from the EU's regulatory framework)

2) renegotiate governance provisions & dispute settlement mechanism

3) renegotiate defence provisions

@tconnellyRTE However, the UK has yet to provide concrete details of what it actually wants.

@tconnellyRTE - EU27 told that the risk of no deal has never been so high. EU noted that it will not negotiate a "managed no deal". EU27 also told that they should avoid bilateral mini-deals, which the UK has enquired about with some member states.

@tconnellyRTE - EU27 ambassadors will meet later this week to talk about state of play and contingency planning. EU27 told that it was pointless to speculate over what might happen in the UK this week, and they should be prepared for all possible developments.
