Some have claimed my Brexit policy is confusing. They are liars-it could not be clearer:
The morning after the EU referendum I called for Article 50 to be revoked immediately. Months later it was-and my MPs backed it by 3 to 1
In the 2017 election I announced we were backing the referendum result and going for a ‘jobs-first Brexit’. Shortly after that I said leaving meant departing the single market.
We then set 5 tests for Theresa May that we knew she’d never be able to achieve, and said @UKLabour wanted a general election after which we’d negotiate a much better deal than the Tories ever could.
Labour conference then backed a motion which said: “If we cannot get a general election Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote.”
Then I whipped my MPs to back a second referendum ... where the choice should be between a no-deal/Tory deal and Remain
After that my top team explained that we would have an election, win it, negotiate a great Leave deal with the EU and negotiate for Remain. That was my favourite.
I’ve now decided we will have an election but not have it; and we will have a referendum in which we will not say whether we will campaign for Remain or Leave.
Only a fool would find this unclear.
