Long story that would take several dozen tweets to explain, but I just asked the judge for more than the DA's office wanted to resolve a plea in my client's favor in a way that would avoid immigration consequences in a state criminal case and they still objected. Good times.
He's still going to come out ok with immigration, but could have done without the prosecution's bullheaded insistence (at their own expense) that there needed to be a possibility of vastly disproportionate immigration consequences just before he gets residency
Imagine a scenario in which the bank has offered you a reasonable loan and you try to haggle for a higher-interest one and they still insist that you can only have the lower-interest one bc it's going to hurt your credit score more (or whatever) and we're getting close
