Labour resolves not to tell anyone what their policy really is. Good. All the more votes for the Lib Dems.
It's like you were saying yesterday. Labour's core vote is about 200, say. The Lib Dems are now the only committed remain party in England. And the SNP in Scotland.

They are the two remain parties, and they're not really competing for the same votes.
If the English remain vote goes to the Lib Dems as the only remain party, the Brexit vote can now split three ways - Tory, Labour and Brexters.
Allowing the SNP and Lib Dems to win about 50 seats each
And if the Lib Dems and the SNP win about 50 seats each, Labour can fall as low as 225, and still all three together keep the Tories out.

You see? Everything is still coming out good.

I know what the Supremes are going to say.
First of all they're going to say Boris Johnson misbehaved. Bet they enjoy saying that.
But the difficulty is identifying what point exactly did he transgress?
Accepted norms, certainly. There is no administrative justification for closing parliament for this length of time.
What's going to swing it for the government is the Fixed Term Parliament Act.
How, you will say, how is that decisive to the case?

You see, people in this country are programmed to think in terms of single party majority government. And they're already misreading the coming general election in that way.
I mean, Labour aren't going to win 250 seats the way they're going. And then a sort of historic memory tricks them into thinking a Labour collapse equals a Tory majority.

Once upon a time it would. But not now.
Like I said, a Labour collapse could leave them somewhere around 220 seats. 40 years ago that would have meant a 200 seat landslide for the Tories.
But now it most likely means a hung parliament. Why?

But I am talking about me. I want to stay in the European Union, and the best way of that happening is another hung parliament. And the best way of THAT happening is if Labour, Tories and Brexters split the Brexit vote three ways.
So we get a hung parliament, the Tories fail to secure a majority, though still the largest party. Johnson resigns, the Tories finally abandon Brexit. We get another referendum.
But as usual, everyone is so busy crying and howling and rending their garments, they fail YET AGAIN to notice they're winning.

1/ If the Dems blow this election it will not be because they were "too far left on policy" or because they "weren't left enough." It will have little to do with policy at all. They are making a mistake caused by traditional consultant theory that does not apply here...
2/ And by listening to influential pundits in liberal media who also don't get the unique nature of Trumpism, relative to normal political movements & campaigns...this election is NOT going to be won by talking about all your "great plans" for health care, jobs, education, etc..
3/ And the reasons are several...Let me begin by saying that I have experience confronting the kind of phenomenon we see in Trumpism, and far more than most. Any of us who were involved in the fight against David Duke in LA in 90/91 know what this is and how it must be fought...

The worst thing Labour supporters like Owen can do at the #EUElections2019 is lecture and patronise Remain voters.

- The NEC decision confirms that backing a #PeoplesVote is an 'option', but did not commit to it unambiguously.

#Remain campaigners have every reason to be frustrated. But instead of attacking them (as Owen does), we need to convince them to stick with Labour

Had Al Gore been president on 9/11, I truly believe he'd have used the unbelievable unity we had in the wake of that tragedy to build support for a massive, New Deal style investment in renewable energy - wind, solar, infrastructure...
It would have done three things: 1) Freed us from our reliance on middle east oil & strengthened our hand in dealing with terrorism; 2) Created millions of jobs; 3) Helped with climate change.
Instead, we had George W. Bush, whose response was 1) to tell us to "go shopping," and 2) to invade the wrong country, at the cost of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars.
