I know we're waaaay on the far side of the looking glass now, but all this UK election goading ignores the fact that British ministers aren't meant to engage in such consequential business during the 25-day election campaign.

If there's a vote of no confidence on Thursday and Parliament is dissolved the same day, 25 working days takes you to ... October 31, Brexit day.
It's just a convention of course and Boris is contemplating breaking the law so I guess this is all just niceties now, but it's still a rejection of what British election campaigns are meant to be about.
Plus is risks putting the civil service who'd need to provide support such negotiations in an almost impossible position. It's a serious breach of their employment codes to be engaged in developing consequential policy announcements during an election campaign.
