If ever I’m accused of a newsworthy crime, I look forward to the BBC obligingly running the headline “He didn’t do it, the police are biased”
Normally you update a story during its lifecycle, and that’ll include denials. But they don’t become the lede! They become additional paras: “Responding to the allegations, a spokesperson for Mr Johnson said...”
Main story is still that the prime minister is under investigation!
As ever, I should state that I don’t believe the BBC is politically biased, just suffering from years of cuts and threats - and lacking enough boldness to hold the establishment accountable. It’s a capacity, capability and confidence issue
