1/ We haven't made much progress as far as development is concerned in Africa in the post-colonial period. There are a few reasons for this and I'll see this analogy.

2/ If a nation wants to go on a journey from a state of underdevelopment to a developed state, it needs a good vehicle, good road, good strategy, good drivers and good passengers.

3/ Apparently, what we got specifically is very bad drivers and no strategies which as a result led us to cultivate a crop of angry passengers.

4/ One of the reasons Africa failed in the Post Colonial period is because we depended on Socialism, which failed apparently.

5/ Why did socialism Fail in Africa?

1. By placing price control on Agric produce, states were exploiting the peasant majority.

2. Administrative Ineptitude.

3. The Idea of socialism is alien to Africa.

7/ Democracy hasn't shown results in Africa. It'll take Africa more than 80 Years to truly be democratic.

8/ Africa is suffering from a defective economic system under the guise of socialism. We need to adopt the Free markets which has always been part of the traditional African economy.

9/ If we really want to change the course for Africa, we need to change the driver (leader) and also change the strategy, fix the roads as well as change the vehicle.

We can't change only one of these and get the results.

10/ We can't blame the colonialist for our woes in Africa. African leaders are rich because of corruption. They cart away millions of dollars when in government. Colonialist didn't cultivate this culture in our leaders.

12/ Rwanda's model isn't democratic. It might be working miracles presently.

You don't need democracy to create a miracle, but you need democracy to sustain it.

13/ I believe that Africa needs a free trade zone. However, we need to demolish all the barriers that impede the intra-African trade in order to achieve the goal of a free trade zone.

14/ How can we trade with foreigners if we can't even trade with ourselves?

- @ayittey

15/ It might be difficult to unify Africa in currency. Even the European Union is finding it difficult to have one. But the idea of "A Confederation of free African Countries" will work.

16/ We need to encourage our own domestic production of rice. The US does it all the time. We should encourage our own farmers too.

The way to do this is to use tariffs rather than outright ban on importation.

17/ If the AU wants Free and Fair election, in the real sense of it, they should ensure that the opposition has access to the media and that the opposition is protected.

18/ Leadership isn't about age but rather experience and knowledge. Africans must place emphasis on competence rather than how old or young a leader is.

19/ If Nigeria must develop in the post colonial period, we need new ideas and strategies. This doesn't go without saying that we must understand the issues surrounding our failure.
