The crucial Q for next week:
Extend Article 50 then oust Johnson? Or oust Johnson so as to guarantee the extension of Article 50?

I've summed up the arguments in a new blog post:
jonworth.eu/extend-article…

Summary in this thread
On one side we have @IanBlackfordMP @NicolaSturgeon suggesting ousting Johnson should be the priority

On the other side we have @joswinson (and I presume also Corbyn) wanting to guarantee Article 50 is extended first
The problem is, as I argue in the post, that *neither* route is failsafe

Ousting Johnson - either via a Vote of No Confidence (VONC) under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act, or using the @JolyonMaugham @HelenMountfield route - both have shortcomings
A completely certain way to make sure Article 50 is extended has also not yet been found, even if routes for Johnson to trick his way around the Benn Act seem to be blocked

Plus if efforts to extend were to fail, the Commons is really short of time post-19 October
Ultimately I conclude that which route you opt for is one of personal judgment, as neither route seems completely failsafe for now

Parliament could - if it takes control of the agenda again - perhaps make the extension route *more* failsafe next week?
The post has been informed by discussion on Twitter with @carlgardner @StevePeers @JolyonMaugham @ProfTimBale @Raphael_Hogarth @RobertCraig3 @GeorgePeretzQC @cath_haddon - views and corrections from all of you would be very welcome!
