The number of people who are functionally illiterate about misogyny and patriarchy is staggering. And I don’t just mean on the right. People who never would’ve called Obama a thug have no problem repeating patriarchal bullshit about female Democratic candidates.
This isn’t about any one candidate. It’s about all of them. Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren...
There are valid reasons to criticize every candidate. But when you say “she’s too ambitious”, “slept her way to the top” or “why isn’t there a paper trail of this so-called discrimination”, you’re being a mouthpiece for patriarchy.
I have to add something. I haven’t seen women of color do what I’m criticizing. But there’s a lot of anger that solidarity is being reserved for white women. That anger’s justified, and it’s not my place to tell people how they should handle it.
