94% of Black women voters had no problem being allies to each other, Hillary Clinton or women in general in 2016. Trump’s in the WH b/c 53% of White women refused to do the same. Behold the self hatred.
Also can we please stop using religion/abortion as an excuse for White women’s self sabotaging alliance with the GOP? Black women are the backbone of the Black Church and you don’t see us voting Republican or perpetuating the lie of “pro-life”. Behold the racism too.
Even these women’s presumption that they should have the power to force pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood upon other women who don’t want it is a function of misogyny and patriarchy. Just because they’re women doesn’t mean they aren’t working in service of men against women.
This presumption is also rooted in the entitlement and privilege of White maleness. It’s a deification that seeks to give them ultimate control over the life and death of others, and it’s manifested in not only abortion but war, the death penalty, prisons and RW domestic terror.
The same women who vote GOP to “save the babies” give NO FUCKS about the fact that they’re simultaneously voting for destruction of the social safety net that the women they’ve forced to be mothers will have to depend on for basic survival. They don’t even see the correlation.
They don’t see the correlation because they think like privileged White men who don’t have the slightest clue what it’s like for a woman to raise a child without a man’s help or with help from a shitty man. They don’t EVER factor in the prospect of abuse, neglect or desertion.
They also think like privileged White women who’ve never had to factor finances into whether or not having children is feasible. They’ve been afforded the opportunity to leave the public workforce/become stay at home moms and can’t fathom the struggle of those who haven’t.
They can’t fathom a woman deciding for herself that she isn’t physically, mentally or economically ready and willing to endure a pregnancy/childbirth or adequately raise a child. They prefer to believe that a man should and will pick up her slack, facts of reality be damned.
People who’ve lived the actual reality know that “should” and “will” don’t always happen, it’s a function of White privilege that these women are still out here pretending life in America is a crystal stair. Black women know it isn’t and don’t have time for fantastical bullshit.
Case in point, the maternal mortality rate for Black American women is astronomical right now. Forcing medical hardship and death by institutionalized racism in our healthcare system on Black women isn’t pro-life, it’s genocide. nytimes.com/2018/04/11/mag…
This isn’t a decision any woman makes without consideration for her own life and the wellbeing of both herself and any child she brings into this world. That 53% of White women decided it’s in their power and privilege to dictate that choice to other women is blatant disrespect.
Black American women die in childbirth at 3X the rate White women do, the stakes are high as w/all other facets of our lives. It’s atrocious for any White man or woman to presume we will allow folk who hate us to choose our fate. We aren’t your slaves. npr.org/2017/12/07/568…
Christianity and evangelism aren’t motivating Black women to be politically anti-choice or anti-woman because taking those positions requires a presumption of entitlement and privilege to impose one’s personal piety/misogyny onto folk who don’t want it. It’s an oppressor’s trait.
It’s not enough for them to just abstain from abortion and contraception in their own personal lives, they have to feed their feigned superiority by enforcing their will upon everyone else too. This is a perversion of religion in service of White supremacy and patriarchy. Period.
Bottom line is too many White people are still under the false impression that they’re supposed to be everyone else’s savior and moral compass. They’ve assigned themselves rights and privileges they aren’t entitled to have and really need to learn how to stay in their own lane.
I don’t serve a White male God and I don’t trust anyone whose religiosity is rooted in nothing more than glorification of their inflated self image and bigoted worldview. I want the White supremacist church and the American Taliban completely separated from the state.
Racism & misogyny are a religion too. Do NOT mistake White evangelicals who vote GOP as the arbiters of anything holy b/c they willfully unleashed this colossally immoral, racist and sexist Trump disaster on the world and feel no shame or remorse about it.
Behold the hypocrisy.
