By contrast, real GDP in the state of Pennsylvania rose 2.1% in 2018, up from just 1.1% in 2016. It came in at 2.9% in Q1 2019 vs. 1.7% in Q4 2016.
Why?
Under the latter, the private sector grew while government sector shrunk 1.1%.
It's a difference in economic philosophies, not distance from the Great Recession.

The claim "workers are being left behind" under Trump/Pence in Pennsylvania or elsewhere, is bogus. Juxtaposed to Obama/Biden, it's insulting.
Employee comp in the first 6 months of 2019 gained $150 billion more than all of 2016.
Also known as... average working Americans.
It's rhetoric vs. reality. That's the debate.
