Attorney for the South Bend Common Council told me he's considering suboenaing @PeteButtigieg before year's end to testify about what's on the secret police tapes.

Two Council members told me they would support that.

@PeteButtigieg The Council meets on Monday night. Unless the Council votes to block the subpoenas or drop the suit, the first subpoenas could go out as early as next week.

Attorney Bob Palmer told me he'd want to get any testimony wrapped by year's end.

In a remarkable shot at local media, Council Pres. Tim Scott in a press release this week praised our reporting and suggested that it could obviate the need to keep pursuing the tapes in court...
We don't know what happened at Wednesday's closed-door session, but here are some of the strategic options Council members were expected to get briefed on:
Ironically, the Council gets most of the blame for the $2 million the city has spent on the tapes, even though most of that was settlements okayed by Buttigieg and his own legal fees.

The $ puts the Council in a bind, but 2 of them told me they'd like the tapes AND subpoenas...
Here's my report on what was said on the tapes.

If subpoenas are issued, Buttigieg et al could be asked to testify as to the authenticity of the documents we quote/screengrab describing the tapes' contents.

I also obtained the deposition of Mike Schmuhl, Buttigieg's former CoS and now pres. campaign manager.

I reported Schmuhl's apparent contradictions with Buttigieg's public statements. Buttigieg's campaign said they are consistent.

A black 16-year-old boy from South Bend was found hanged in 2011. Officials called it suicide.

His mother called it murder.

She asked Mayor @PeteButtigieg for help. He told her to call the office, and then never called back.

Here’s the story.

South Bend reporter @jharrell6468 began working on this story in 2011, soon after Jiha’d Vasquez was found hanged.

Jeff spoke to officials and obtained police records.

@TYTInvestigates asked him to finish the story for us.

None of what he found has been made public until now.
Despite his name--given him by an absentee father--Jiha'd was a devout Christian.

He attended summer camps run by missionaries. Carried a Bible in his backpack.

South Bend Mayor @PeteButtigieg is facing intense scrutiny for refusing to release tapes of SBPD and other police, police reportedly using racist language.

I went to South Bend. And it's more than just tapes.

Karen DePaepe sued the city for firing her after she found and reported the tapes' racist contents.

The city's settlement agreement, signed by Buttigieg, requires her to keep them secret to avoid "negative impact" on prosecutions.
.@NAPD2013 told me, “The city's obligation is to make those tapes available to the prosecutor.”

The Hill reported that black leaders estimate that scores of convictions could come into question if the tapes reveal racist language by arresting officers.

2/ Several key points to keep in mind: South Bend was the birth place of the Women's Care Center, yet Buttigieg capitulated to lobbying from out-of-state abortion providers and activists who didn't want competition--they wanted money from dead babies. And Buttigieg sold out
3/ community, moms, dads, babies (born and unborn), and children--WCC provides resources for all!--to keep in good graces of abortion Left and Democrats. And in his veto statement he set up South Bend taxpayers by announcing his decision was based on WCC's viewpoint.
