House now voting on amendment on election date.

If passed election date would be on 9th December, not the 12th. It’s in Jeremy Corbyn’s name.

Govt WIN.

So if things go as expected election date will be December 12th NOT the 9th.

Chris Leslie is trying to table an amendment under the Report stage. Govt had thought there wouldn’t be one.

Deputy Speaker Eleanor Laing essentially rules it out of order, says there won’t be a report stage and moves straight to third reading.

Not entirely sure there were that many “Noes!” Shouted out upon division. Mainly Anna Soubry shouting very, very loudly.

It is an odd experience, watching a Parliament, vote itself out of existence. Probably even odder for those actually doing it.

So the Commons has voted for #GE2019 on December 12th.

Anna Soubry raises a point of order to say majority of backbenchers on both sides don’t want an election. Which seems a bit heroic given it’s just passed with a majority of 418.

Jacob Rees Mogg confirms dissolution date as Wednesday 6th November.

Says he thinks likely House will sit on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Declines to comment on whether this Parliament or the next will elect a new Speaker.
