You see kids in cages and other outright horrors of this administration’s immigration policies, but no one talks about how quietly sadistic they are in a thousand different ways to people like myself and my Lebanese husband, who have been trying to legally immigrate for two years
His visa was approved 6 months ago and we haven’t received an interview yet. Their latest method of torment is to keep periodically demanding more documents, each of which takes 2-3 months to process. They’ve done this 3 times. We’ve been stuck in limbo for 2 years, just waiting.
The last time I spoke to my lawyer, he sounded exhausted. “I am so tired of fighting this system for my clients,” he said. “They’re making people in South America wait over a year between approval and interview.” It’s hard enough for us, but it must be breaking countless families
We want to start a family. We want to have a home we can call our own. The worst part of all is the utter helplessness of knowing your happiness and future hang upon the whims of people who cage children and destroy relationships and families, just because they can.
P.S. My husband is a biomedical engineer with two post-grad degrees and his PMP. Do not believe for one minute this is about skills or qualifications. It’s about the banality of evil.
