the interesting thing about this poor showing is that it demonstrates the power the united daughters of the confederacy have in the broader altright movement. they issued a stand down. other groups grumbled and bristled... but seem to have obeyed.
the violent escalation of various far right groups that have been turning up in pittsboro since the vote to remove the statue proves that the statue itself is a lightning rod. it hurts the UDC’s case for keeping the statue for armed, angry men to be the associated with the fight.
but we already know what happens next. because it’s still happening in charlottesville. we’re stuck with our statues & two years after a rally for their preservation resulted in a murder, they’re still a huge draw for violent racists.
a few months before jason kessler’s rally for the charlottesville statues turned into a nazi street riot that ended in a murder, there was still a working relationship between kessler and the monument fund.
during the lawsuit over the charlottesville monuments, one of the plaintiffs made it clear that the only thing making their common cause with jason kessler uncomfortable for them was the optics.
the statue preservationists like pretend there is no overlap between their cause & violent groups on the streets. it’s just not true.
anyway, today’s racism rally in pittsboro is pretty sad. they didn’t even bring snacks. this is the worst tailgate i’ve ever seen.
i won’t post the whole picture because we live in a world where these sweet babies would be a target for violence, but two moms & their big family were just here. they held individual letters on signs spelling out “racism sucks” with a sign that says “racism is a grownup disease”
allen hall, who hit someone at last week’s demonstration, mercilessly heckled the children. takes a big man to stand up to... a four year old.
things were winding down, but cody gall, who crashed a vigil for the victims of the pittsburgh synagogue shooting last year, just showed up dressed as abraham lincoln and wearing a pepe the frog pin.

cody is not well, physically or otherwise. he genuinely needs help. but he’s been doing the on the ground harassment work for people like daniel “jack corbin” mcmahon for a long time. he claims now to denounce mcmahon, but he’s continuing the work they did together.
cody got very upset when i mentioned the feds are carefully combing through daniel mcmahon’s devices and social media accounts, reading all the communications they would’ve shared. i wonder why that made him so angry and terrified?
