If you want to register to vote, go to this page:

To apply for a postal vote, go to this page:

For more information about registering for a proxy vote, go to this page:

In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you can't vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote until 17:00 on election day.
The reason must be something that you weren't aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline.

Remember to find out about what the parties are who are standing in your area, who their candidates are and the policies of both the party and the candidate.
This site is a good starting point:

If you are voting in person, check where your polling station is located.

If you are sending a postal vote, make sure you allow plenty of time for it to arrive at your local council offices.
This is particularly important with a December election due to Christmas post.
If you are posting from abroad, leave plenty of time or consider a proxy instead.
If you can't post it in time, you can take it in person to you local authority by 17:00 on election day or to you polling station.
Note that Northern Ireland rules for postal votes differ. Check with your local authority for details.

During recent local elections, some local authorities trialled voter ID.
This trial has ended and to the best of my knowledge, no local authorities will require voter ID for the general election.
If they do, this will be mentioned in your polling card.

Some people have noted that the candidate lists at whocanivotefor.co.uk do not seem correct.
Not all parties have announced their candidates yet and potentially some could change those already announced.
The official lists aren't published until 16/11.
And a further clarification on the postal voting registration deadline.
It is in the same day as the main registration deadline, but applications have to be received by 17:00. For just registering to vote, the deadline is midnight.
If you want to encourage more people to register to vote and more people to actually get out and vote, this site has some great resources.
Here's a very helpful thread on Proxy Voting from @BestForBritain for anyone who has never done it before and feels they might need to, or just doesn't understand how it works.
Unsure where to start with planning on voting?
This flow chart from @jonworth gives you a good understanding of how to approach things.

This really ought to encourage those who don't bother to vote that they can make a difference...
Please retweet some of the posts linked in the next few tweets, to encourage people to register to vote before the deadline next week.
Just because you aren't a UK citizen, don't assume that you can't vote in the general election.
Don't be one of the people whose opinion is never taken into account.
