Last night, Don Cherry made comments that are wrong in describing Canadians' remembrance of our veterans. His remarks don't recognize the contribution of Canada's diverse communities. I hope we can turn this into a moment where we can learn about about all who have served. 1/7
All Canadians should remember the sacrifice made by the Chinese Canadian community, like #Vancouver-born, Frank Wong. He was on Juno Beach & was there for the liberation of Holland during the Second World War. 2/7

Canadians also remember Jeremiah "Jerry" Jones of Truro, Nova Scotia who enlisted in the 106th Battalion. He fought during the Battle of Vimy Ridge & was posthumously awarded the Canadian Forces Distinguished Service Medallion for his heroic actions. 3/7

And the contribution of Private Bukan Singh. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 14 from a village not far from where I was born. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1915. His is the only military gravestone in Canada of a Sikh soldier.4/7

We also remember the bravery of Indigenous Canadians, like Francis Pegahmagabow, an elite sniper and an Ojibwa from Ontario. He would receive a Military Medal with two bars for his repeated heroic acts during the First World War. 5/7

Canadians remember the strength of women like Hallie Sloan. She joined the army during the Second World War. She served at 8th Canadian General Hospital & continued in Normandy, Belgium & Holland. In 1964 she was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. 6/7

Last night I was made aware that someone I do not know had posted an "open letter" addressed to me on social media. I won't share it in full because I am not interested in turning this into some sort of witch hunt. There is enough hate already. But I want to tell you about it.
The letter begins by telling me that the writer wants to "raise some concerns about [my] recent online behaviour". What the writer means is that I swear occasionally and recently tweeted this.
I do appreciate fully that the use of swearing isn't for everyone. I am not even really making a case for its use. I simply think that, occasionally, it is helpful. Basically, I agree with this - it's worth reading and there is more on the topic: theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2…

First of all, if you haven’t visited #Canada, COME VISIT. The people are awesome, as is the nature, food, and general vibe.🤗

When someone asked me what I do, I mentioned my biomedical research stuff, plus my work to fight the #corruption in my country.🇺🇸💙
He responded that his country were “huge supporters. We *want* you to do well. And what’s happening is scary to ALL of us.”😳

Last night my wife made a Han themed cocktail for #SoloAStarWarsStory. It's got gin, coffee liqueur, a cherry, and some other stuff. Like Han, it's bold and risky but it works. Anyway, here's a thread on the movie, why I love it, and why I think people should watch!
I love Solo because its veins are pulsing with pulpy, old movie serial pacing and inspirations. It's a fast, fun ride that zips through the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, western, romance, Lovecraftian horror, gangster, buddy comedy, heist, and more. It's a tour of #StarWars' roots.
BUT even more than that I love its big picture themes. Everyone in the movie is longing for their freedom. Han, Chewie, Qi'ra, Beckett, droids, Wookiees, children, entire planets. Their freedom is denied by the oppression of the Empire and its complicity with vicious criminals.
