Last week @DavidLJarman wrote about where congressional districts fall along the lines of diversity and education. Let’s explore this a little more along the rural/urban gradient, using @dhmontgomery's classifications. 1/

Pure Urban: a mixture of districts from low ed, low white to high ed, medium white, but entirely Democratic 2/
Urban-Suburban mix: moving into some less diverse, less educated quintiles but still almost universally Democratic (dashed lines show quintile divisions) 3/
Dense Suburban: finally we see a decent number of Republicans (for now). Note, however, that 'suburban' very much is NOT the equivalent of 'white'
Sparse Suburban: very much mixed territory. We now can see the pattern where whiter, less educated districts, even within the same category, are on average more likely to elect Republicans. 5/
Rural-Suburban mix: dominated by Republicans, although Democrats can be found across the range 6/
Finally, Pure Rural: Mostly solid Republican territory. And, while we do see a fair number of 90%+ white districts here, most are not. Rural, also, does not mean white.
