Let's not get too self-congratulatory about #PISA results (which have many flaws), or hyperbolic in our claims (education superpower?)

Instead, let's focus on why experts think Canadian students are doing better than many other countries. EQUITY.

Despite different policies in individual provinces and territories "there is a common commitment to an equal chance in school," and "there is a strong sense of fairness and equal access."

/2
Equity can "be seen in the high academic performance of migrant children"

"Within three years of arriving, Pisa tests show that children of new migrants have scores as high as the rest of their schoolmates."

/3
Canada is "one of the few countries where migrant children achieve at a level similar to their non-migrant counterparts."

/4
Instead of allowing demagogues like Kenney and Ford defund and dismantle our public education system, let's re-affirm our commitment to public education and making our schools even more equitable for all.

/5
Also take note @Rob_Fleming.

"Another distinguishing feature is that Canada's teachers are well paid by international standards - and entry into teaching is highly selective."

/6
@Rob_Fleming If you want a great #bced publication education system, you've got to pay your teachers well.

It's high time the @bcndp pays BC teachers what they deserve for creating a world class education despite decades of neo-@bcliberals cuts. Do the right thing.

@Rob_Fleming @bcndp @bcliberals PS. Hey @jkenney and the @Alberta_UCP, vouchers suck.
