Morning tea musings: D&D has metallic dragon species, like silver and gold, right? They have bronze dragons, and brass dragons, but brass is not a naturally occurring metal. It’s an alloy of zinc. But there are no zinc dragons! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?!
Now I’m envisioning a druid and an alchemist who get drunk around a campfire one night, and decide to go on a quest to find the lost zinc dragons. Because you don’t get brass without zinc, so they must be out there, somewhere, right?
As @RulesLawStudent pointed out, to get bronze you need copper and tin. There are copper dragons, but not tin!

Wanted: stalwart, inquisitive, open-minded adventurers to join a quest to find the lost tin and zinc dragons. Success, and survival, are not guaranteed. Bring snacks.
Clearly bronze dragons are hybrids between copper and tin dragons, and brass dragons are hybrids between copper and zinc dragons, so either copper dragons migrate to breed with zinc and tin dragons, or there are cryptic populations of the latter in copper dragon habitats. Or...
Has anyone done a population study on brass and bronze dragons? Perhaps tin and zinc dragons went extinct, and copper dragons have stopped hybridizing. Maybe tin and zinc dragons are just silver dragons that have been mis-identified, and this will be resolved with genetics.

Today is the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. It’s hard to hear the Boomer nostalgia for that moment, in such stark contrast to the realities of world they’re handing down to us.
Wow, the generation that loves to tell my generation about all the ways we're not doing enough, and all the things we're ruining really doesn't like it when you point out all the ways their generation is responsible for that.
I've got science to do today, so this is the last I'm going to say on this for now: fixing a broken system isn't a generational right of passage. The fact is, we grew up in a system with Boomers in power, who Boomers disproportionately fund and vote in, to this day.

There's so much to unpack here -- the need to normalize having fewer or no kids, the challenges of having kids in a country that doesn't support parents, and the fact that we're "alarmed" by a declining birth rate while people face barriers to seeking asylum or citizenship...
By the time our family logistics supported having kids, it was too late for my biology to cooperate. The only options left are surrogacy ($60k - $120k+), adoption (as much as $50k, with multi-year waiting lists), or no kids.
Like many in my generation, my husband and I combined have a more student loan debt than a surrogacy costs. We have no savings, because we're paying off debt and (finally) buying a house at 38 and 42. If we have a kid, it will be cheaper for him to stay home than pay for daycare.

3. Remember the good old days of coins with silver and gold? You know what really happend was that those evil states or dukes would change the metal worth in coins and rip you, the public off.

Gold: At $1326.50 in early European trading on Monday, #gold is some $20+ off Friday's intraday high.
I think it's fair to say that this is one reason why #gold is lower today (although I'd also argue that trading on presidential pronouncements is a dangerous game).
Gold: But this is another contributing factor - the change in Managed Money #gold futures positions reported by the CFTC for the week to 4 June (i.e. last Tuesday).

I had exactly 30min entry-to-exit to explore @hmns.

I’d heard they have a solid collection of trilobites & the massive cut blue sapphire Siren of Serendip is a special exhibit.

But with the clock ticking down, I raced up the stairs & tumbled into Cullen Hall of Gems & Minerals. Museum wall sign of icons indicating different types of exhibits
