I thought it might be interesting to some here to understand what it took to officially become a candidate for a federal office.

For me, that is the U.S. Senate.

First, I had to register as a candidate with the FEC (Federal Election Commission). Shortly after ...

... that, I was required to register an election committee, in order to manage the finances of my campaign.

You can view these registrations here, as you can every other federal candidate, PAC, etc.

Lots of good information!

Then, I had more "housekeeping" matters to tackle.
A campaign website waas generated using a company called Nationbuilder, who are outstanding!

Part of getting the website online was reserving a domain name (pukitaforsenate2022.com), as well as contracting for email services.

I also needed to establish Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts specifically for my campaign.

Oh yeah, forgot about a logo ...

And, very importantly, a bank account, as well as registering with state & federal taxing authorities as a not-for-profit organization.

The bank account allowed me to connect the donation / donor page on the website to Stripe, one of my payment processors. Stripe takes ...

... your credit card info and debits your credit card account & credits my campaign bank account.

(hint, hint)

😉

I've also registered with Anedot, another well-known payment processor that mainly focuses on political campaigns & issue campaigns.

These services are not free (🙄imagine that!).

9/X
Stripe charges a "discount" of 2.9% + $0.30/transaction.

Anedot charges a "discount" of 4% + $0.30/transaction.

Next, there were business cards ordered ...

11/X
... and bumper stickers.

That's a quick update on progress so far.

More in a little while.

Any questions? Just ask.
