Account Hacking: A New Trend

This is the 2nd among the 3 articles I want to publish on internet fraud. This second one will focus mainly on how most accounts are hacked.

Most of the hackings that happen in these days are called social engineering; a system where someone will..
trick you and get some important details from you. He will use these details to hack into your account.

Examples

The image attached to this post was a post from an Instagram page of a lady. Someone sent the message to her that too much login attempts were detected; she..
should reset her password by sending her old password and new password to an email address that is not an official address.
What they want to do is; get the old password that she emailed to them, use it and hack her account. You can see how easy this type of hacking is. Let me..
explain a more devastating one.

In this case; a webpage will be created with a similar interface as the target social media platform. You will be asked to login to perform a certain task; maybe reset your password, participate in a survey about your friends or something..
Whenever you type your password, it will be sent to that person that is trying to get your login details and you will be granted access to whatever you are about to do; that means you cannot notice anything.
How to secure your account

Here are some few steps to avoid the above mentioned hacks

1. There is no social media platform or any standard app/website that will ask you your login details via email or any messaging system. Do not fall for that.
2. Put your login details in app/website of the platform you want to login to: if you are putting your Twitter login details, make sure the app is an official app; if it is a website, make sure the domain is an official domain of that platform.

How to detect an official domain:
the ‘word’ that appears immediately before the last full stop(.) in the web address is the domain name. Most domain names are registered after the company’s name. Example, Twitter.com, Facebook.com, Apple.com.. sometimes the product name;
example, iCloud.com, Android.com.. for the above examples, the domain names are Twitter, Facebook, Apple..

In a case where you find 2 or more dots in-front of the company/product name, avoid using it. Example, twitter.quizzer.com,
iCloud.unlocker.com, facebook.com.tilde.com. The domain names are quizzer(not Twitter), Unlocker(not iCloud), Tilde(not Facebook). The company/product name must appear as a single word before the final full stop(.)

If you have not mistakenly submit your login details..
to a wrong platform, hacking your account will be extremely difficult, the people that can hack it are rare in this world; they will have to hack that entire system to access your account, which is nearly impossible.
