Imagine how this Daily Wire story (or Franklin Graham's take on it) would be different if this was about a Muslim American announcing that they were "called by God" to occupy a position of political leadership in the US.

There is nothing at all wrong with a person of faith like Sarah Huckabee Sanders holding public office. Nothing at all. The problem comes when she understands her role in that office as serving a particular religious vision of the state or the nation.
America's religious culture, "our" culture, is and has always been diverse. That's why the ideals of toleration and the separation of church and state are foundational tenets of our civic culture.
In the 18th century religious dissenters, esp. evangelicals like Methodists & Baptists, saw the creation of a secular polity (w/ a strict separation of church & state) as their greatest friend, as the thing that would save them from the religious persecution so common in Europe.
