A quick overview: Bashir is a student & independent journalist in Edmonton. He writes about issues that affect POC, and his work is read and shared across the nation. Articulate, inspirational, resolute & brave. He deals with racism and documents it so the rest of us can witness.

He organized the silent protest because of an 11 year old boy and his mother.
In September, the 11 year old wore a durag to school to display his pride in his culture. The principal and school police officer called it a gang affiliated garment and forced him to remove it.

The meeting between the 11 year old’s mother & the principal ended in the principal triggering the panic alarm, police being called, accusations of abusive speech & banned from school for a year. Preventing the child from attending school, since his mom can’t drive him there.
Except mom was smart and surreptitiously recorded the meeting with the principal. The recording is available. She didn’t abuse the principal. She was angry, and a bit indignant, but not abusive. Who wouldn’t be upset in a similar situation?
That’s where Bashir stepped in to advocate for her and her son who are definitely being racially profiled and discriminated against.
The family just wants acknowledgment that the child was racially profiled and an apology. The principal, School Board and Trustees all refuse.

The Superintendant and the Board of Trustees have concluded nothing wrong occurred, even after the recording was shared, on television CITY news. They are all choosing to stand behind the principal. Thus, an 11 year old hasn’t attended school in almost 3 months.
To gain awareness of the issue, Bashir organized a silent protest at the latest Board of Trustees meeting. It’s called political activism. Not disturbing the meeting. Without a word being said by the demonstrators, the Trustees cancelled the meeting after 13 minutes.
This was the first scheduled meeting since Kenney announced severe cuts to the public education system, (in Alberta it includes Catholic school boards). Parents of children in Edmonton Catholic did not get to hear the Trustees discuss their plans for accommodating those cuts.
Not only was Bashir and his silent protest blamed for cancelation of the meeting, now he’s getting death threats.
A local radio host, Ryan Jesperson, had invited Bashir to discuss this series of events on his morning show.

Immediately prior to going on air, both Bashir and Ryan were threatened with a cease and desist phone call informing them Edmonton Catholic Trustees we’re considering filing a liable suit if the case was discussed on air.

1. Kenney has exploded the amount of corruption in Alberta. He’s eliminated corporate taxes, crates law to pay youth less than adults, handed out multiple contracts to buddies and cronies, & recently fired 90 prosecutors so the corruption can go unabated by the justice system.

4. UCP is trying their hardest to eliminate the opposition. They ignore questions in QP. They smear and assassinate character of Notley and NDP daily, hourly. UCP has a non-transparent $30M/year war room to attack and quell dissent.

7. Indoctrination is the goal of UCP’s cuts to education. Principals rule the school. Trustees rule the decision making power. Don’t ask questions or rock the boat or you’ll be attacked, viciously. Loud and clear, the Catholic Church & schools are supporting UCP.
And in case that intimidation of dissenters isn’t clear enough for the nation to believe this is a fascist dictatorship... Kenney attacked an academic 4 days ago in the Legislature. It’s in the Hansard.

It takes very little time to implement fascism. The only reason it took this long was the October federal election. A delay to get CPC elected. Now they want a libertarian untainted by Christo-fascist intent. Don’t believe it. Alberta & Ontario are the models they will reproduce.
