Just to be clear - it is not scaremongering to suggest the NHS could be impacted in different ways by a trade deal with the US. It is a fact, given that the US have included access to the NHS in their published negotiating objectives
The question is whether any UK government would accept a provision in a US trade deal that adversely affected the NHS. The Conservative Party are saying they would not. But in 2018 the PM said no allow customs checks between GB and Northern Ireland
Election promises to protect the NHS are no substitute for the proper transparent procedures which governments should follow in trade talks, starting with a strategy (not yet), then a mandate for each deal (no), then regular public reports and Parliamentary scrutiny (no again...)
Until we have proper procedures for scrutiny of trade deals any statement that is made about them is speculative and could be scaremongering. The way to change that is not to stop the commentary on matters of genuine public interest - but to change the governance. /end
