Abuse of trans women is a rampant problem in this country and, as you say, it is often perpetrated by the very same groups who hypocritically claim trans women need to be stripped of public accommodation for the safety of cis women.

I believe the passive-aggressive way society sexualizes trans women is itself an incitement of violence against them. We're told they're ugly, they're frauds, they're undesirable, and so then we turn around and don't believe them when they are sexually preyed on by cis men.
Queer people of all kinds are assumed to have a sexual agenda just for living as they are in public spaces. And that leads cishet people to define their interactions with them in sexual terms that wouldn't be true of cishet men or even cishet women.
That is what we must change.
