At #GE2019 there are (according to the polls) only two plausible outcomes: a Conservative majority (a blank cheque for 5 years to do anything including a no deal Brexit in 12 months) or a Labour minority government where Corbyn likely can't do everything he would like to do.
Johnson would not get Brexit done by January, he would get us past the legal point of no return. Then he would put us in a terrible negotiating position in the trade talks with the EU by insisting he won't extend the transition period beyond December.
If the country still wants Brexit then Labour can get it done. They know no amount of trade deals outside the EU could compensate for the loss of membership of the single market and customs union, so they would pursue a Brexit which is much swifter and less disruptive.
If the country no longer wants Brexit (and it's worth reflecting that almost all signs show this to be the case) then with Labour we'll get that choice that we'll never have with Johnson and the Conservatives.
I know that politics has been exhausting. I know that most people just wish we had never had the referendum in the first place. I know we'd like to feel we could trust politicians to just get on and do their jobs so we can get on and do ours.
But that is not what is really on offer from Johnson. He wants power and he's shown he'll break all the rules and say whatever it takes to get it and hold onto it. Brexit has always been a means to an end for him, and that end is himself.
