Events like this may not permit us all to tell our stories for the dearth of time but it does reinforce our resolve & amplify what we each stand for as it culminate into one coming ground...the future of our children. #InternationalHumanRightsDay @EUinNigeria #EndImpunity
Since we can not agree on anything else without poking each other’s eyes out, we can as well agree that we owe it to all our children and the vulnerable in our society to leave them a better legacy and better society where they can all equally & equitably thrive.
The EU & other foreign envoys can’t fight for us even if they want to, they can only play the role of a catalyst by creating an opportunity such as this to showcase & recognize leading voices within the constellation of ailing clusters, with the hope of forging a collaboration.
What we MUST do however across silos is to find common ground/intersection point regardless of how pressing our area of interest may be. This is the only way we can galvanize the needed political will to agitate for legislation collectively, push for inauguration of commissions..
...and have people focused on monitoring implementation. Government are people too and they will never do that which is not checked, monitored, criticized, punished or rewarded. The voice of the people must be heard. We are Society & not merely living in one.
We can’t keep pointing fingers or seeking messiahs. We need to amplify the voice of the people across issues that buffet them across harmful cultural practices be it sexual/gender based violence, police brutality & discrimination against people living with disabilities.
None of the advocacies can succeed without sensitization of the collective via effective engagement across platforms up to the grassroot level. We must all take responsibility whether we are directly affected or not. It must be established that we are all affected indirectly.
We are humans first and as active citizens we must recognize the need to align with our humanity & jettison destructive social constructs that tend to divide us along gender, ethnic, religious and social stratification cum political lines. It is time to #RiseAsOne
The event of today must mark the beginning of continuous conversation around our united front across issues. If Nigeria MUST work, we all must Work. Nothing will be done for us unless we show seriousness and commitment in a responsible manner. We must convert these talks.
We at @SIAF_NG are ready to collaborate with all organizations & willing to share proven ideas/strategies that work for all interests. It is time to design a framework that works for us uniquely. Nothing can be effectively prosecuted without fixing the Criminal Justice System.
While we deal with that with proven voices and CSOs in that region, nothing stops us from lending our voice to other causes and amplifying the voices of others. It goes beyond discontent and emotions alone. Our engagement must be strategic. Find out what breaks the chain.
