At #COP25Madrid rich countries are literally pouring oil on to the climate fire. They have known about the urgency to act, they know the science & that the clock is ticking on 1.5c with less than a decade to act. They refused to act in the previous decade & now they are demanding 
thaf they can use discredited carbon markets to shift the burden to the global South. They are calling for solutions that will displace food production in the poorest countries so they can offset their failure to act.
Because they want to lock in even more fossil fuel extraction. Their target is an expansion of fossil fuels by 150% beyond what is compatible for 1.5c. The majority of that expansion is in rich countries like the USA & Canada.
And knowing the damage they are doing to the global South the USA, UK, EU, Australia are demanding that they have immunity for themselves & their companies for any liability for the damages.
They want the climate talks to open the door for dangerous geo-engineering technologies to suck out carbon from the atmosphere so they can continue to pollute.
They refuse to provide much needed climate finance to developing countries and want to ignore their historical responsibility & the principle of the polluter pays by shifting the burden onto developing countries.
So whilst rich countries hold the climate talks to ransom refusing to allow any progress until their deal is accepted - outside the doors civil society groups are holding their own peoples plenary - calling for the right for everyone to have a dignified life, for equity & justice
The time for warm words & empty promises are over. #COP25Madrid must reject the agenda of the big polluters. At #COP26 the #ClimateJustice movement will refuse to allow those in Govt & the big NGOs to sacrifice the global South with demands of net zero by 2045/2050 in the name
of policy pragmatism. We will demand a Global Deal for People: every country to do it’s fairshare of emissions cuts; energy, food, water, land for people not profit; a living wage & universe public services for all; finance & technology transfers to the global South; protection
for those facing the crises of climate & economic inequality; trade justice & and to fix our broken economic model. Our movement will need to be anti-racist & anti-colonial, diverse & accountable to the global South. The only hope now rests with us. People Power & System Change
