Far from an exhaustive list, but here's what I've learned from this election.

- Polls being wrong before doesn't mean they're wrong all the time
- A wonderful, dedicated, committed and brilliant activist base is no substitute for political strategy. But we musn't jettison it.
- 4 years of media hostility is damn near insurmountable without a counterweight
- Rebuilding trust in communities which have suffered for decades can't be done with good policy alone
- Too many policies being trumpeted means that it's hard for any one thing to cut through
- There were lots of good reasons to shift to a 2nd ref position. A lack of strategy of how to shore up the Leave vote proved fatal.
- It is possible for progressive parties to span young and old, town and city. But Labour must learn from other countries how to do it.
- 2017 was the model. Vote share went up in all the areas Labour just got hammered in. A fresh leader, a leftwing economic programme which was simply communicated, and a lack of Brexit fatigue.
- Without Corbyn, the Tories would not have shifted on spending as they have done. He's the reason the anti austerity movement found a foothold in electoral politics. He smashed the Overton window on public services.

The argument wasn't 'lost' in 2019, it just didn't happen.
- 2 big things stopped me from seeing this bruising coming. The first was assuming that the 2017 resulted indicated the continuing direction of travel for Labour. And the second was overestimating the popularity (and geographic spread) of a 2nd referendum.
