We would think that Citgo is a U.S. company, it is not. Fifty % of Citgo was sold to Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) in 1986, the remainder was snapped up in 1990. Citgo is essentially a parastatal that controls the socialist nation’s existence. 2014 vs 2019 #NotGood
Oil comprises 95% of Venezuela's exports and 25% of its gross domestic product. So whoever controls the oil will control the nation. A socialist nation relying on shrinking oil revenue is Arab Spring on steroids.

February 2012: Thor Halvorssen and Olaf Halvorssen were in business discussions with Erik Prince regarding oil investments. The Halvorssen's are a wealthy European/Venezuela family with links to dissidents in America. They also get plenty of bad press.

Captured LNA pilot: Even with UAE air and Russian FOs, Haftar's ground rabble can't take or hold ground. Haftar and his UAE controllers are running the war from al Marj after unassing al Jufra. The cranky old Russian-trained artillery officer is losing.
The decision of Haftar to inject clownish amateurs like Erik Prince and Russian/Janjaweed mercenaries into this local conflict was a large part in bringing in Turkey in to end the madness. Even though Turkey knows the Libyans are leery of outside influence with historic baggage.
This historic resonance of Ottoman-controlled Tripoli from 1551 to 1864 may actually crystalize the American government into understanding the relevance of unchecked "pashas" and "pirates" in the Mediterranean. The "Great Siege of Malta" redux. East vs West etc.
