My own position on #CAA2019 has been - it is sound in principle (read @pratimbose article👇) and nothing wrong constitutionally (as explained by none other than Harish Salve). But, I anticipate serious issues in implementation. Therefore, other than the #NorthEast #CABProtests /2
#CABPolitics e.g. in #Assam where it is a live issue (but religion agnostic as they are against all immigrants changing the demographics of the region) for the rest of India it is largely an academic issue. Therefore, #CABProtests in the name of “secularism” ill-conceived 3/n
4/n in the name of secularism. A democracy as large as India cannot be run by a section of Twitterati, activists, Left-Lib intellectuals, media celebs and NRI columnists, who are the ones actually feeling disenfranchised by the current regime which they viscerally hate #CAB 5/n
5/n Finally, it is most unfortunate to use students of minority institutions as cannon fodder - while they tweet away from the comfort of home without even taking the trouble of candle vigil anymore. #JamiaMilia and #Aligarh MU is not all of India. It needs to be asked why 6/n
6/n university students in other states (where #CAA2019) have not taken to similar protests - as indeed students of other universities in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Carry out #CABProtests by all means but adopt democratic and civilised process and do not use #CAB as an excuse 6/n
6/n to get a government on its knees - since you don’t like it. Cheerleaders and sections of the media who are rejoicing over the #CAAProtests - should have realised after May 2019 - no amount of Award Wapasi, fake-news of Church Attacks could dislodge this government. 7/n
