I would just like to understand the logic, ya know?

Why people came so hard for an accessibility medical need like plastic straws under the veil of environmentalism...

And they DO NOT come as hard for unnecessarily celebration waste such as balloons, glossy gift wrap, etc?
Why did you work so hard, you effectively made the lives of disabled people HARDER, by advocating for plastic straw bans...

But when it comes to truly unnecessary and harmful waste, the crowd is simply just not even remotely as loud?
Reminder that there is recyclable gift wrap, to reuse gift bags, or just don’t wrap things? Idk here is a thread...

I wish the environmentalism efforts took a good hard look at their ableism and stopped harming disabled people via their ignorance and privilege of platform and being listened to (to the point of establishing legal straw bans).
And here is a video brushing the surface on the harms of the plastic straw bans.

If you participate in handing out candy to Trick-or-Treaters, try these tips to be more accessible to trick-or-treaters with disabilities: A child wheelchair user is dress in a pirate costume, an orange sign displays the wheelchair accessibility symbol wearing a cape and text reads, “Accessible Trick Or Treating”
Have a well-lit path to avoid accidents/injuries, particularly for those with low vision and mobility disabilities.

If there are bumps or raised sidewalks/pavement, try marking it with glow in the dark tape or paint to prevent falls. A sidewalk has a raised crack, it it marked to be visible with bright orange paint.
Clear a path from the sidewalk to your home.

Walk the path from the sidewalk to your home and be alert to whether the path is wide enough (minimum 32 inches) and smooth enough (free of debris, obstacles, etc) for wheelchairs/mobility aids, wagons, & strollers to come and go. A house with a clear drive way leading to the front door of the house.

I am really glad that Noah used his abled privilege and large platform to discuss disabled mimicry but I also have complicated feelings about it.
I've mentioned it before and this is a good example of how "I never thought of it like that" can feel dehumanizing.
Your "aha" moment is:
"Oh! Disabled people are diverse.
Oh! Disabled actors exist!
Oh! Disabled actors are not BAD actors because they are disabled!
Oh! A disabled actor has the same chances of being an amazing actor as any abled actor!

I would really really really really appreciate if event flyers, invites, venue pages, etc. would tell you their accessibility information!

Is the venue wheelchair accessible??

Do you have sign language interpreters for performances??

Let me know ON the invite/flyer/website!!
Three times in the past 30 days: I get invited to a large public event and I have to play full-on detective to try and figure out if it is accessible, if I am welcome in the space!
Nothing on the email invite

Nothing on the website

Venue never answers the phone or their messages

One email said "The 1st floor SHOULD be accessible"

Apparently, pruning in a particular manner stimulates growth hormones.

Since it was apparently news to a lot of people that straws are used for accessibility (DESIGNED FOR IT, even)

Here is a partial list of common kitchen items that can help disabled people cook (that we self pay for)

#Accessibility
Kitchen thermometers : useful for colorblind people who can't discern the color of meat to test doneness

Also for d/Deaf people who want to test the doneness of bread but can't tap it to check if it "sounds hollow"
Waffle makers : because flipping pancakes requires a lot of manual dexterity and standing over the stove

These can be an access tool for those with back problems, chronic pain, coordination issues...
