Blacks have always practiced Group Economics. Mound Bayou, MS was founded by former Slave Benjamin Montgomery in 1867. It was one of the earliest Self Governing Black Communities in America. It covered 846 acres of land. #ADOSPolitics npr.org/2017/03/08/515… @NPRmelissablock
The problem that Blacks have had throughout history is a lack of Political Capital that protect their economic interests. Mound Bayou, MS is a perfect example of why a political framework is so important. #ADOSPolitics @BennieGThompson @jerameyanderson mississippitoday.org/2018/01/24/mou…
To add context to the Political repercussions of not having agency, more than half of the 98% Black population in Mound Bayou, MS live below the Poverty Level. They have a population of 1,408.
Mound Bayou was its own School District. In 2012 @PhilBryantMS passed Senate Bill 2760 to consolidate 5 Bolivar County School Districts. According to a Mississippi Business Journal analysis, Mound Bayou was one of the States most financially sound. msbusiness.com/2012/05/bill-p…
Mound Bayou School District was the ONLY School District in Bolivar County that was rated Successful by the Mississippi Department of Education. After the passage of Bill 2760, in 2014 North Bolivar School District merged to form North Bolivar Consolidated School District
Today the NorthBolivar Consolidated School District is $741,448 in debt with $3.5 million dollars in structural and systems repairs. They are facing a 3.5 percent decrease in State funding; giving the District $200,000 less than before.Board spends 95%of their funding on personnel
Without Political influence to get access to Capital, Group Economics is not effective on a micro level. #Reparations is a macroeconomic model that is critical to gaining Political Influence. This is how Group Economics is sustained.
The State Legislation's repeated laws to consolidate School Districts continue to destabilize Successful School Districts and create more that underperform. Politics is about an exchange.
