mostly direct action focused. Which isn't without a use, they are good at getting people to show up. But, the Democratic Party is supported in elections by masses of seasoned door knockers & phone bankers. Bernie's camp are still learning this on the recruitment side. 2/12 
They have great tech for P2P and F2F outreach, which helps, but a great deal of Bernie supporter energy is spent screaming into the void in Twitter threads in ways that make people who #knockdoors all the time less likely to do it this year for Bernie. 3/12
Volunteer enthusiasm is EVERYTHING, but that enusiasim has to be able to scale, or you don't have a movement, you have a cult. 4/12
One of the reasons the volunteers who collected 440k signatures to end gerrymandering in MI did it 60 days ahead of schedule and with insane validity & data integrity numbers was a significant process level focus on self reflection withing the volunteer base 5/12
We didn't just handle the expected pushback from supporters on having elevated expectations when it came to messaging and tactical discipline, we capitalized on them. 6/12
We used @Facebook groups to emphasize key messaging points to the volunteers most active on social media and IRL multiple times until they were self correcting within the volunteer base. To make up for my annoying, polite & consistent reminders to stay on message & 7/12
within strategy, we challenged them to reverse normal signature collection diminishing return trends. As the r² trendline for daily signature counts neared zero, I offered to shave my head if they could hit 150% of the daily signature average over 9 days. 8/12
Yes, I recycled an @archerfxx joke, but it fit too well, and our volunteers were mostly 50-68 year old recently retired people. I promise I gave credit in the coments. 9/12
Because they were fantastic & I was the guy above the dunk tank annoying (for lack of a better term) them to message correctly on Facebook, they met the challenge, and we hit our goals and ended #gerrymandering in MI.

Bernie's camp essentially has supporter level messaging & strategy being written & managed by his most vocal online supporters. Political twitter users see this every day. There's little data connecting tone of online discourse to KPIs for volunteer voter contact programs. 11/12
But, having trained & managed the volunteers on most successful ballot initiative program in MI in my lifetime, I know I wouldn't want to recruit in a universe of prospective volunteers who were called racist, fascist, and Republican by supporters of the nominee for months. 12/12
