This piece ran in the Wapo in 2013 as President Obama was in the midst of painstaking negotiations for a nuclear deal with Iran. You simply cannot understate how hard and crucial making that deal was, and the horrendous cost of Trump throwing it away. washingtonpost.com/news/worldview…
The irony is that the blowback from the 1953 U.S. removal of Iran's president included not just the mullahs/revolution but also the Iran-Iraq war. Then the U.S. under GW Bush brings Iran and Iraq together by invading Iraq in 2003. And now Trump lands Iraq, Iran and us here.
Good, patient diplomacy and strong alliances got us to the brink of peace, and in just a few years Trump's impulses have brought us to the egde of war.

BTW just tactically, trolling & attacking are ineffective ways of gaining support for your candidate. I've never seen it work and it almost always backfires. The snake emoji swarms on Warren; the doctored video accusing Biden of attacking Social Security, the oped... to what end?

My cautionary prediction: Khamenei will retaliate not against US bases but something much more limited. Will try to sell it as the #SevereRevenge he promised.

Unlike Trump, Khamenei is prudent and has survived decades at the helm. +
Khamenei has never shown reckless or even bold decision-making. His strong self-preservation instinct has always taken over. An attack on US won't be just reckless but suicidal.

There are, ofc, dangers and things might spiral EVEN out of his hand but I'd say that's unlikely.

Firstly, I don’t think so that war is about to happen. US will increase pressure on Iran, they have already sanctioned them heavily and forced the Oil/gas importers of Iran to back out and Iranian oil exports have fallen significantly within a year.
