As @Eugene_Scott and @emarvelous point out black folks are pragmatic voters but that pragmatism is often interpreted by white media outlets as "conservative" or "moderate" values when it isn't. It's about trust
Reading this excellent book abt AfAm trust and linked political fate, as much as class drives black voting decisions. Black folks are policy progressive but don't trust white allies so are inclined to support more moderate candidates in national elections
The treatment of Obama by white democrats (Hillary & *ahem* Bernie who threatened a primary) has made black voters even more distrustful that a candidate w/ an actually targeted black agenda could win the nomination or get elected. This is across all ages

This isn't to say there are no differences among black voters by race, class & gender but it explains how more progressive white candidates have a challenge convincing black voters that a "revolution" will include them too
