- I am cis
- I do not speak for trans people
- I am not a “trans star” whatever the fuck that can mean for a cis woman
- I am a feminist who is an ally and pro-trans rights because that is the just position and because I want to destroy patriarchy and its hierarchy of oppressions
- I have a large platform and the least that I can do is to support the trans, non-binary & gender non-conforming communities.
- Those communities are among some of the most marginalized & maligned.
- Bigotry & violence targeting those communities is abhorrent & unacceptable.
- I don’t owe anyone a “debate.”
- The idea of cis people “debating” trans rights is as abhorrent as straight people debating gay/bisexual rights, white people debating rights of people of colour, non-disabled people debating disability rights.
Transphobes and anti-trans accounts have sought me out for this tweet I posted on Friday. I do not seek out anti-trans people. They *do* swarm and flood over a tweet like this. I am cis. Imagine the hate that trans and non-binary people get.
-I am a feminist whose goal is the destruction of patriarchy.
- That goal entails fighting misogyny as well as other oppressions utilized by patriarchy: sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, all bigotry.
This is a long thread I compiled based on interviews with five British feminist academics who are pro-trans. Many of the “talking points” of transphobic bigots are addressed and countered here
