What difference does it make if you are followed in a department store or made to feel lesser from time to time? What’s the harm? - your belly is full.
The harm is with racism -historically we are not called for that job at all. And a constant barrage of microaggressions to full racist acts has health outcomes or life-ending consequences.

Conversely, the passage of the marriage equality act saw a drop in suicides among LGBTQ. So yes- working to eradicate disparities is a quality of life issue. Just not apparently- the lefts.

The Left has a hard time seeing race impacts financial equity more than the reverse. There are many times the wealthy discriminate against the wealthy. Economics is not always a factor in racism. But racism will always be a factor in preventing full participation in economics.
We don’t fight the left. We know its better to have an imperfect friend than an enemy. So we simply don’t respond to their appeals. The coalition is only powerful if we can meet our numbers to get to ½ plus one of the votes.
Everyone in this coalition for civil rights reasons-do a lot of compromising. There is a lot of wealthy people voting democrat.
The left keeps this drumbeat of let's focus on economics - And taking our silence for lack of agency.

So my bottom line is: Everyone has agency. Inviting someone into the tent -means someone may leave that tent. It is one thing to be willing to compromise but you are centering someone whose direct need subjugate -that person may exercise a new option.
This coalition is built on a lot of interest coming together. Learn to count! To capture the "maybe" of ppl who are not voting for you, are you willing to lose a significant part of your coalition? Bad math. The last 2 Dems they voted for was P. Clinton 1992 and P.Obama 2008.
