(1) Actually there is one definition of BL, but there is no guarantee that any school/teacher claiming to use BL is actually do that. BL is a guiding philosophy; not a program or script.

(2) This is a survey and may or may not be generalizable

@educationweek The first responses to Allington I saw were on Twitter by #dyslexia advocates. They repeatedly misrepresented his comments to be far more extreme than they were even though the thread had the audio to refer to. Leading a criticism with misrepresentation hurts your credibility +

Serious questions and expecting serious replies that remain *on topic*. For dyslexia and "science of reading" advocates:

Please name a distinct period in history over the past 100 years in the US when there was political and public consensus reading achievement was "good." +
Please identify *scientific research* from that period that shows some positive causal relationship between how students were being taught reading and that "good" outcome.

Please identify any period of testing in US when outcomes were not mostly related to socio-econ status +
Please share *scientific research* that shows any changes for a state in NAEP scores were directly caused by changes in reading policy or programs. [Note: None is possible for 2019 data yet; therefore, any claims of cause are without a basis in scientific research.] +

1/ #ME: Feeling a way about the incuriosity/obvious bias in the press. Thought I'd annotate an article with my thoughts/analysis.
2/ #CPS: The CTU won’t agree to the money until it gets the other items on what Jackson calls its “social justice bargaining” agenda.

#ME How do Black and Brown children get anything w/o a justice oriented agenda? Or, a demand? Better question: Why don’t they already have it?
3/ #CPS: That includes everything from affordable housing , a dramatic increase in “community schools”, enforceable caps on class size, mandatory hiring of support personnel written into the contract and more teacher prep time with potential to shorten the school day.

#Thread. Alright let’s deal with the Hecht Op-Ed/steaming pile of crap. First from a journalism perspective it should never have been published. It is a hot mess of exaggerations, fiction, and leaps of conclusion to fit the author’s - ignorant - narrative.
First never mind #Denmark I found the the most puzzling statement to be about #Switzerland, below. The Swiss are not governed by four ethnic governments with each ethnicity sticking to their fourth of the country. This claim, as far as I can tell, is total fiction.
Matter of fact after an afternoon researching Swiss governance, ethnicity, etc. The descriptions of #Switzerland used common terms like “diverse” “a melting pot.” Having been to Zurich it is also very nice and well worth a trip.
