Fuck me, watching This Life is an odd experience. When I was a kid I saw it and aspired to that kind of life in my twenties. Now I'm in my thirties and it's making me nostalgic for my twenties.
Still can't stop thinking about this. It was so odd to watch something which felt incredibly fresh and cutting-edge as a cultural artefact.
The smoking in pubs. The lack of phones. And most of all, the treatment of Miles, who now would be the villain but in that was considered appealing.
But at the same time, bits of it felt unbelievably ahead of their time. The empathetic focus on Warren, the nudity, and most of all Anna.
Anna especially. I mean holy fuck. I was obviously madly in love with her when that thing first aired and my feelings have changed not a bit since then.
Basically what I'm getting at is that that programme made me feel really old.
