I'm seriously struggling to understand the position of the American Diabetes Association - the premier anti-diabetes institution in the United States.

Their @Type2CEO just admitted to reversing her Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis and getting off drugs and insulin.

but... 1/n
@Type2CEO the ADA website lacks any information about ketogenic diets. It recommends carbohydrates as a good energy source - one that is needed. The people answering the ADA chat have no knowledge about low carb.

What is going on? There are 18 Board Members of the ADA.

2/n
@Type2CEO Maybe being a CEO doesn't give you any power to change the conflicts of interest of 17 other people who don't want the ADA to change into a LowCarb/AntiProcessedFood/AntiMedication institution - which is its eventual future if it absorbs low carb science.

@Type2CEO diabetes.org/about-us/who-w…

So who on this board is preventing the progress of the ADA?

Who is anti-science? Who is corrupt? Who is delaying progress? Help us make sense of this discrepancy @AmDiabetesAssn - You should be a leader in this space - not 25 years behind the curve! 4/n
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn diabetes.org/diabetes

Healthy Eating? Okay let's see what that means.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Oh "may need medication or insulin" 6/n
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Wow, way down on the page - finally some decent advice. Is it good enough? 8/n
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Wow starch and sugar are explained. But couldn't we add in the tip that the necessary amount of carbohydrates per day is 0? And Why is fiber a requirement. There is no requirement for fiber in the human diet. In fact - the fiber free foods that are listed are all you need. 9/n
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Wait what?

Tells me what carbs are. And then gives zero advice on what to do with this knowledge. Are we supposed to eat any? Are they required? What happens when you don't eat carbs? Low insulin and steady glucose and a diabetes reversal. Hmmm.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn "And as you begin counting carbohydrates, you’ll want to stay away from food that has high carbs and instead choose a more balanced nutrient mix of carbs, protein, and fat."

I just don't think this advice is clear enough. "balanced nutrient mix" is meaningless -meat has no carbs
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn diabetes.org/nutrition/heal…

Okay we clicked the link to find out more.

Fruits and vegetables? Show me the data.
Lean meats? What? No. we need animal fat for energy!
Less added sugar? How about NO added sugar. You have diabetes after all! Pick your feet or sugar!
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Uh - I have a bad feeling that "diabetes superfoods" won't be meat, cheese, or eggs because they all lack fiber. But they also lack carbs - so why wouldn't they be a superfood for a person that cannot process carbs?

Take bets - let's see what a superfood is!
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn diabetes.org/nutrition/heal…

LMAO I'm right.

* Beans -> packed with vitamins and minerals (and lectins)

Beans do contain carbohydrates, but ½ cup also provides as much protein as an ounce of meat without the saturated fat.

Poorly bio-available protein. Saturated fat is bad? WRONG
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Superfood2: Dark green leafy vegetables

Also packed with oxalates and anti-nutrients that don't want to be eaten. Kidney stones anyone? Autoimmune diseases? IBS? Let's flag some of the risks of the innocent dark green leafy veggies.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Citrus fruit? Jam packed with sugar.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Sweet Potatos are a superfood for diabetic people....

Yes. THE @AmDiabetesAssn literally says this in 2020. Fiber still isn't a nutrient. The vitamin A isn't even easy to convert to Retinol.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Berries and Tomatoes? I mean - I guess they're more or less lowish carb but I'd hardly call them superfoods.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn The first protein source with essential vitamins and minerals like B12 and DHA...is the 7th listed superfood. HOW! This advice needs to be higher up. And the ADA has to reflect new science on Saturated Fat(good) and PUFA 6(terrible!)
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Once again - nuts are good because they have fiber? They're also low carb.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Recommending Whole Grains to Type 2 Diabetics? Didn't you just say that carbs turn into blood sugar? Why would this be a super food? What does it have that meat does not? Really poor advice here. Do all 18 people on the Board think that Whole Wheat is a diabetes superfood? HOW!?
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Milk and yogurt is the last superfood. I mean...maybe put this at the top and mention that milk has 12 grams of lactose/serving which is not acceptable for any diabetic.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Beef, Lamb, Pork, Eggs, Cheese = NOT SUPERFOODS ACCORDING TO THE @AmDiabetesAssn

But those were all the foods that @type2ceo said she eats. So what exactly is going on here? How can a CEO say one thing and have a company that does another? That's #Hypocrisy.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Nothing about Low Carb Diets.
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Search 'keto' on diabetes.org

UM - HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM.

#HoustonWeHaveAProblem
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn search 'low carb'
@Type2CEO reddit.com/r/ketoscience/… Is there a disconnect? There is in New Zealand!
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn "Jane N (1/31/2020, 4:12:37 PM): People with diabetes can eat carbohydrates in moderation. Your body still needs carbohydrates and how many carbohydrates you can have are based on many factors such as your age, weight, typical intake and medication routine. "
@Type2CEO @AmDiabetesAssn Please feel free to read our Standards of Care and and suggestions are welcome by filling out this form: professional.diabetes.org/sites/professi…

Maybe we should Retweet this link and Propose some radical changes to the ADA!
