I am going to speak a lot here but let me tell you, some moments in the movie are searing. They break your heart. But again, I am speaking about the likes of myself. When Shanti before leaving her home folds here hands in front of the gods, it reminds me of my mother.
The montage of real abandoned houses of #KashmiriPandits breaks your heart. The song in the background of this scene makes you cry. It leaves you heartbroken. Shanti's wish to write 'good news' even in an 8*8 camp is moving. Optimistic in the face of hopelessness.
Shiv Kumar Dhar's dedication to education is what the Kashmiri Pandit community has stood for, always. His character has the heart at the right place. (Not speaking more about the content of the movie). The characters portray Kashmiri Pandits with all honesty.
However, many of us might say that we wanted more. I wanted more when I sat in the theatre. This is because there are so many things unsaid in us. So many stories, we want all of it to be shown to the world. Every part of the tragedy that we couldn't tell anyone all these year.
If you sit down with any of us and ask us to narrate, we might go on for days without stopping. But, #Shikara is a movie. It is not a documentation of the #KashmiriHinduExodus . It one of the lakhs of stories in the community. It is a beginning of the conversation. Hear us out.
It is the story of the community which faced the worst but picked up the pen instead of the gun. It speaks less about what happened in Kashmir and more about how KPs lived with resilience, courage and celebrates their courage and goodness. And I thank @rahulpandita for doing this
