Here's our Trump FY2021 budget thread, which we'll be updating throughout the day.

Ranking Member @SenSanders: "I will do what I can to ensure that Trump’s Budget is rejected by Congress. This is not what our priorities as a country are about.”

@SenSanders The Trump budget calls for $182 billion in cuts to SNAP. SNAP gives just $1.40 per meal. It lifts 7 million out of poverty. And Trump would eviscerate it.

@SenSanders The SNAP cuts in Trump's budget are both massive and immediate. SNAP benefits are already small - just $1.40 per person per meal. Cutting the program by a quarter is extremely cruel.
@SenSanders Means-tested programs like SNAP always increase when times are bad and decrease when times are good, by explicit design. This happens naturally, as incomes and jobs fluctuate. But what the administration is proposing is deep and cruel cuts beyond SNAP's pre-recession levels.
@SenSanders Trump's budget calls for $2.5 billion in cuts to WIC, which provides critical food assistance to infants, toddlers, and pregnant moms. WIC serves nearly 8 million people and is incredibly effective - higher birth weights, achievement in school, etc.

@SenSanders Even the Trump administration agrees their 2017 tax bill lost a LOT of revenue. This graph shows revenues in Trump's first budget compared to current projections. If the GOP tax plan actually raised revenues, the darker blue line wouldn't be wildly lower.
@SenSanders Here is a screenshot from Table 11-2 of the Analytical Perspectives released with the Budget. The administration is calling for another $1.4 trillion to extend their tax cuts.
@SenSanders Extending the Trump tax cuts would give large tax cuts to the richest while giving hardly anything to anyone else.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Deficit fears are enormously overblown. However, the Trump administration cooked their economic assumptions to lower deficits. Here's a first-order approximation of what their budget would look under CBO's economic assumptions. Deficits on the left graph. Debt on the right graph.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget would destroy discretionary programs, cutting them by $1.9 trillion. These are things like Section 8, Head Start, WIC, LIHEAP, public housing, NOAA, NIH, NASA, NSF, the CDC - most of the programs that we think of when we think of what the government does.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Section 8 helps over 2 million households afford rent. It is already drastically underfunded - roughly only 1/4 of eligible people are on it. Trump would cut it by a quarter, kicking struggling families out into the streets and into the cold.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls for the Public Housing Operating Fund to be cut by more than one-third - $16 billion dollars over the decade. This fund provides rental assistance by covering the difference between what housing authorities receive in rents and the cost to run public housing.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls to completely eliminate the Public Housing Capital Fund - $32 billion over the decade. The Public Housing Capital Fund provides funds to maintain the public housing units in existence. Without funding to maintain them, these units will fall apart.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump would eliminate CDBG, HOME, and the Housing Trust Fund, cutting nearly $56 billion over the decade. This would eliminate the federal government's funding for new affordable housing units when there is a shortage of 7.4 million affordable homes for low-income households.
@SenSanders @iteptweets From preschool to higher education to research, Trump's budget calls to cut education funding by $328 billion.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget cuts:
$85 billion from Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Education
$227 billion from Higher Education
$16 billion from Research and General Education Aids

This would be an enormous disinvestment in the future of the country.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump is calling for $13 billion in cuts to Head Start, reducing it by 18 percent by the end of the decade. The program is deeply underfunded as it is and serves the most vulnerable children in the country.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump would cut NIH by a quarter, totaling $77 billion over the decade. NIH does critical health research that this administration would see forever halted.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls to cut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by one-third by the final year, $23 billion over the decade. If one were looking create a public health crisis, this, along with the cuts to NIH, isn't necessarily a bad way to go about it.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls for a $36 billion cut to the EPA - 41 percent by the end of the decade. Clean air and clean water are staples of society, and this budget would deprive everyone of them, poisoning us all.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Already struggling to reach as many families as it should, TANF would be slashed $22 billion under Trump's budget, more than decimated.

@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget would entirely eliminate LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - $42 billion in cuts over the decade. LIHEAP helps 6 million people heat their homes in the winter and cool their homes in the summer.
@SenSanders @iteptweets As with so many other parts of this budget, any "investment" the president claims is often more than fully offset by other cuts - sometimes future cuts in the same program. Despite touting a NASA increase, Trump's budget calls for deep cuts to NASA over time.
@SenSanders @iteptweets The Trump budget would cut the National Science Foundation by $15 billion over the decade. This is not investing in the future.
@SenSanders @iteptweets The Trump budget would cut the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration by $18 billion over the decade. NOAA performs critical weather tracking and research.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls for the United States Geological Survey to be cut more than forty percent - $5 billion over the decade. USGS studies the planet, tracking earthquakes and performing critical research.
@SenSanders @iteptweets The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau works to make sure financial institutions don't take advantage of people. Trump's budget would cut it by more than a third.
@SenSanders @iteptweets The Consumer Product Safety Commission protects consumers by passing critical safety regulations and recalling dangerous and defective products. Trump's budget would cut it by a quarter.
@SenSanders @iteptweets Trump's budget calls to eliminate the Corporation for National and Community Service. This program provides the funding for AmeriCorps and the Senior Corps, which fund service activities in high-needs areas across the country.
@SenSanders @iteptweets The Trump administration is so proud of its proposed disability cuts - $76 billion over the decade - that it lists those disability cuts to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income on its short list of major policy initiatives.
